Last Session The morning of 6 March the General Congregation 35 had the last session at the aula. Staff The rhythm of the General Congregation needs many people around the work of the delegates. Assistancy Groups Some of the works of the Congregation are done by Assistency Groups. Kolvenbach's farewell On 1st March the Aula pays homage to Peter-Hans Kolvenbach. Papal Audience On 21 February, His Holiness Benedict XVI received the members of the General Congregation in a private audience. Mass with the JRS The international office of the Jesuit Refugee Service organized a mass and a reception for the delegates of the General Congregation. Visit to San Egidio Fr. General and the delegates were invited to the San Egidio Community on February 9. Sistine Chapel On Saturday february 9, a group of delegates visited the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. Ash Wednesday Eucharist celebration on February 6, at St. Ignatius Church. The Eucharists at the Congregation The Eucharist is central to the life of the Congregation, day after day. Work Groups Much of the work takes place in small groups organized thematically before the plenary sessions begin. Mass of Thanksgiving On January 20, 2008 Fr Nicolas presides his first mass as General of the Society of Jesus in a solemn mass of thanksgiving at the Gesu Church Election Father Adolfo Nicolas is elected General of the Society of Jesus by GC 35 on January 19, 2008 Mass of election . The day of the election began with a mass concelebrated by all the electors at the Church of the Holy Spirit next door to the Curia Murmurations Electors engage in a period of prayer and private conversations known as murmurations four days before election day. Once the Congregation begins so do sessions in the aula, which is the setting for subsequent debates and discussions Opening Mass GC35 formally begins with a solemn mass on January 7 at the Gesu Church presided by Cardinal Franc Rode Preparations There have been many necessary preparations in order to be ready for the GC35. Most of them take place in the aula, a few days before the official opening day.
